SATURDAY 07 JAN. 20-- LIGHT WINDS AND STRONG CURRENTS

Stevan, our now-regular sailing mate, came down from the Santa Rosa area to join us for an afternoon outing.

The breeze was a light westerly as we left port.

With full canvas, we headed out into the central bay sailing toward Treasure Island on port tack broad reach-- sailing across the waxing ebb current, and watching the Catalina 34 named FATA MORGANA cross our bow, sailing with the current and looking good!

We gybed and headed toward the A-B span of the Bay Bridge and this lovely Tartan sailboat passed to starboard, also looking good.

We sailed to near the cityfront where the breeze was lighter, and then gybed again and watched this Ericson motorsail past.

Off to port, the SF fireboat was bearing down on us, and passed astern. Seems like they were taking a bunch of passengers out for an excursion on the bay.

Now the breeze started to flatten in our area of the bay, and the financial district office towers were now reflecting in the flattening sea surface.

We sailed out and drifted out into an area of breeze east of Blossom Rock buoy, where the ebb current looked like a river passing the buoy, and watched this sailboat motorsailing down the cityfront.

We contenplated sailing around Alcatraz as we arrived in some freshening westerly breeze, but decided not to risk it and tacked to head back toward home port, watching a race boat flying asymmetrical spinnaker sailing against the ebb current to the east.

With the declining breeze, we had no choice but to cut short our outing, and head back into the marina, so we doused sails and headed in. It was early enough that the tide hadnt reached the negative level, so we didn't have to dock ANTICIPATION temporarily at another dock to avoid slogging the keel through the mud on the way into our slip.

After docking, we walked over to North Beach to rendezvous with Stevan's wife, Stela. The small italian restaurant that she had picked out for dinner was too full, so we walked over to La Felce to find them closed for remodelling. So we walked over to Fior D'italia on Mason Street and had a nice dinner there.
