SATURDAY 6 JAN 07-- NO WIND DAY

Chris came down from Quincy, a small town in the mountains north of Truckee, to go sailing with us for the first time-- also to visit his daughter and sister-- and we were also joined by Stevan and Michael and Evelyn. We headed out about 1:30 and put out full canvas, but had no wind so were drifting with the current. A very light breeze came up after we had drifted back to past pier 39, but it quickly died out, and nothing returned.

The city was enjoying warm sunshine.

We drifted to the west with the current, hoping for a breeze to asset, but none came. So we motored back to the east past pier 27, and then drifted with the current again until we had again drifted past pier 39. A very light breeze came up for a few minutes-- not strong enough to stem the waxing ebb current, so we motored back toward home port, doused sails and aborted the sailing attempt.

Hope we'll have better success tomorrow.
