MONDAY 12 FEB 07-- SAIL TO TREASURE ISLAND AND BACK
The day started out with some partly cloudy skies and a nice southeasterly breeze, so in the late morning, we decided to head out for a couple of hours of sailing before the predicted rain started falling. We put out full canvas and headed toward the D-E span of the Bay Bridge with the ebb current dragging us northward as we sailed eastward on close reach starboard tack.

Off to port a tug boat pushing a barge was on a converging course, but the tug skipper kindly sped up a bit to cross in front of us so we didnt have to tack away.

Although the bay waters were sparkling in sunshine, the financial district was oversast and we could see dark clouds moving in from the south.

We sailed to near the west shore of Treasure Island, not far from the Naval Museum on the Island, and then tacked away to the south.

The breeze had softened, so there was now no hope of making it to the Bay Bridge, and we fell off a bit and headed for home port, hoping to arrive before the rain started, but a few drops were falling as we watched this sailboat sailing to the northeast in front of us.

As we approached the cityfront, this small sailboat passed in front of us, heading east.
We sailed behind pier 33 to douse the sails and ready for landing-- putting on the main sail cover as the rain was now falling more steadily. We motored around pier 35 and into port, landing in the slip with some disconcerting surge banging ANTICIPATION about a bit, but still we landed safely, tied up securely, and eventually went below to get warm again.
