THURSDAY 19 APRIL 07-- SHORT OUTING- WIND CAME AND WENT

We didn't go out on Tuesday as we were fighting a cold and it was blowing like stink on the bay.

Bob Hickey joined us again for out Thursday afternoon sail and we left port about 2:30 pm, in light southerly winds with the forecast for possible showers.

We raised single-reefed main in case the wind velocity increased dramatically and put out full jib and headed east toward treasure island as the city behind us was suffering under overcast skies.

The Ferry Building and the financial district were all essentially in black and white.

Eventually we tacked to the south and shook the reef out of the main, and managed to sail within about a quarter mile of the bay bridge before the breeze died.

A dive boat was positioned out in the middle of the bay and we watched as a diver went down to inspect something-- perhaps the undersea cable betwen the city and treasure island.

A new breeze came up for a while as we headed back toward home port, but it soon died out and the sea flattened into a near-mirror.

We rode the light breeze and ebb current back to near home port, then turned on the engine, doused sails and headed into port. After docking and putting ANTICIPATION to bed, we went below and had a glass of wine and some cheese and crackers before heading over to Fog City Diner for a nice dinner-- Bob's treat-- with the rain starting just as we were leaving the boat.
