THURSDAY 17 MAY 07-- TO THE GATE AND BACK IN STRONG WINDS
Michael and Joe joined us for an early afternoon sail and we left port about 1 pm
with winds howling in the 25-30 knot range again. We raised double-reefed main and headed out into the central bay with a small jib also.

We sailed past the lee side of Alcatraz and then continued sailing westward, watching this sailboat with reefed main but full jib crossing the bay in front of us.

She was well heeled-over, perhaps with her port rail in the water from time to time.

Over by Belvedere a lovely sailboat with reefed jib and main was heading for Sausalito.

Way off our starboard side, another sailboat was also heading into Richardson Bay.

Behind us, a lovely ketch with reefed main but full mizzen and jib was sailing off the wind down the weather shore of Angel Island.

A large sailboat flying main only was motorsailing to the south and crossed in front of us.

As we approached the shore near Yellow Bluff, the GGB was it's spectacular self, standing sentinel over the golden gate.

Cute little CLAM steamed across our bow, headed for Horseshoe Cove.

We tacked and sailed past Horseshoe Cove, and began watching some windsurfers enjoying the strong winds just outside the cove.

This one got into a wind hole and went down and had a bit of trouble finding some wind to pull him up again.

Here he is finally getting up again as another windsurfer passes.

Here, two of them are scooting across the waves, the board of the one on the right hidden behind a wave.

As we headed for the gate, this J24 was returning from the ocean with full canvas flying.

Joe was enjoying the extreme sailing as we were close to shooting the gate....

....and Michael was at the helm as we tacked and headed out the gate just inside the north tower....

.... passing the cute lighthouse just inside that tower.
We just ducked out the gate and then came about and headed for home port, pulling out the jib to full for our downwind sail, and having a blast as we blasted downwind, playing in the windwaves, doing some surfing on the larger ones and just having a great time!
