TUESDAY 29 MAY 07-- A BLUSTERY SAIL TO THE GATE AND BACK.

Steve joined us for the second time at about 2pm and we headed out and raised a single-reefed main.

Winds were howling at about 20 knots, considerable less than the previous day.

The city was basking in brilliant sunshine, but with a few high marine-layer clouds beginning to scud across the sky.

Behind us, the ALMA was sailing toward the cityfront.

We beat against the wind along the cityfront shore, and eventually encountered a lone windsurfer blasting across the bay waters.

We sailed out the gate near midspan and then fell off toward Kirby Cove, enjoying our view of the GGB behind us.

We then came about and headed for home port, pulling out the jib to full for downwind power. With good winds we were back near home port within about 45 minutes, the city still enjoying brilliant sunshine with more clouds scudding over.

We pulled in the jib as the wind was shifting more into the west and sailed the rest of the way on main only, sailing into the lee of pier 35 to douse the main and ready to land. The trip to the gate and back took a total of one hour and 45 minutes-- a fast trip considering that we had to beat against the wind to get there.
