SUNDAY 12 AUGUST 07-- OUT THE GATE AND TO SAUSALITO ON CORTO MALTESE
Olivier on Corto Maltese, an Ericson 34 on C dock, invited me to join him and a colleage, Cole, for a sunday afternoon outing, and we left port about 1:30 pm.

As we headed out into the central bay, this large ketch passed, heading east.

A neighbor sailboat was also heading out at the same time.

As we headed west on the southwest breeze, taking some spary in the choppy waters, this sailboat with an Ericson design on the main passed to starboard, but her hull design doesn't appear like the typical Ericson.

We tacked and sailed toward the cityfront, tacking again as we approached the Ft. Mason piers and then headed toward the gate, passing this sailboat looking good with full canvas flying downwind.

A bit later, this nice looking Catalina passed, heading downwind with full canvas.

We shot the gate near midspan and enjoyed, as always, our views of our magnificent bridge!

After sailing out the gate, we tacked and headed south toward Baker Beach with Cole at the helm and the gate receding behind us.

The GGB looks spectacular from outside the gate with the bay landmarks behind.

Futher inside the gate, some windsurfers were shooting across the waters of the bay, like this one.

We eventually gybed and headed across the bay toward Sausalito, passing ADVENTURE CAT2 as she headed for the gate.

A beautiful pelican flew past as we continued on toward Richardson Bay, the lighting and background just right to make this look a bit like a 3D image.

Inside Richardson Bay, we passed this lovely sailboat with high tech racing sails, heading for the main bay.

This little paddle boat was enjoying the flat waters and sunshine.

Another sailboat with an Ericson insignia on the main passed, and having the same hull design, so perhaps these are Ericsons with a design of the hull near the stern radically different from the ones we usually see.

A number of kayakers were paddling around on the waters of Richardson Bay as we ghosted northwestward in light air.

Eventually we came about and headed back, passing this very large sailboat tied up at one of the Sausalito marinas-- probably about 80 feet in length-- a magnificent looking vessel!

We sailed across the central bay toward Crissy Field again and enjoyed more views of windsurfers and kitesurfers like this one.
We continued gybing back and forth across the central bay, enjoying the brilliant sunshine and warm temperatures, eventually sailing into the lee of pier 35 to douse the sails, before heading into port after enjoying about 5 delightful hours on the bay in near ideal conditions.
