SUNDAY 19 AUGUST 07-- SAIL TO YELLOW BLUFF AND BACK

Sunday afternoon was sunny and warm and we headed out for an afternoon sail about 2 pm.

Winds were moderate as we left port, about 10 knots.

We headed out into the central bay and were surprised to find very few sailboats out despite the nice conditions, but this J boat was blasting downwind on a beam reach under spinnaker and looking good!

The pier 39 flags were fluttering moderately in the 10 knot breeze as a small sailboat sailed past the end of the pier.

We sailed westward on the southwesterly breeze until this inbound freighter forced us to tack in order to ride, rather than buck, its 3 foot wake.

CIRQUE passed in front of us, flying a colorful spinnaker and looking good as well.

As we tacked away from the shore and headed west again, our old pal, ADVENTURE CAT2, was heading for home port.

This nice, dark-hulled sailboat passed to port, flying only a postage stamp sized main along with a full jib.

A small sailboat from Spinnaker Sailing crossed in front of us as we continued westward.

A bit later, this J105 race boat crossed in front of us, flying full canvas and looking great!

Later we saw that Spinnaker Sailing sailboat heading downwind, perhaps heading back to home port.

As we approached the shore of the Marin Headlands, this small sailboat was returning from the gate and looking good under spinnaker!

Here is a short video clip of this boat heading toward Raccoon Straits.

The wind had freshened dramatically, so we decided to head for home port rather than reefing and heading for the gate, and as we headed home, this small Knarr sailboat was heading for the gate on main only.

The lovely sailboat named, VENT VITESSE [vital wind, in french?] crossed in front of us, blasting along under spinnaker

This small sailboat crossed in front of us, heading toward the cityfront.

A lovely pelican flew past as we continued on toward home port.

The city was enjoying brilliant sunshine as we sailed between pier 45 and pier 39.

A cruise ship was still tied up on the east side of pier 35 so we doused sails on the west side of that pier and then made ready for landing before motoring into the marina.
