WEDNESDAY 5 SEPT 07-- TO GGB AND SAUSALITO IN WARM SUNSHINE AND MODERATE WINDS
My friend Jen from Chicago came out to spend few days with us in San Francisco and we headed out for a mid-afternoon sail.

Flags were flutering moderately in the warm wind as we headed out in short-sleeve-shirts.

PRIVATEER, a charter ketch, was motoring back into port as we headed out toward the central bay.

Out on the central bay, a small raceboat was blasting downwind under spinnaker as a tourist ferry headed toward her home port.

Further in the east, a lovely schooner was headed for the Bay Bridge.

A flock of pelicans flew past, a few feet off the surface of the bay.

Alcatraz was enjoying the warm sunshine as we approached.

We continued sail to the west on the southwest breeze until we approached Yellow Bluff where the GGB is partially hidden from view.

A Hunter sailboat passed in front of us, returning from the ocean and heading for Sausalito.

A couple of tacks later we were heading for Horseshoe Cove and this smaller sailboat under main only was heading across the gate.

We tacked after sailing past Horseshoe Cove and headed across the gate to eventually encounter another Hunter sailboat that was heading for the gate....

...but, a bit later, had fallen off to head toward Richardson Bay.

That smaller sailboat that was earlier crossing the gate was now motorsailing toward the gate.

We sailed to just west of Blackaller buoy and then tacked to sail out the gate between midspan and the south tower.

Jen was enjoying her time at the helm as we shot the gate.

We sailed out a ways as this other sailboat was heading back inside, doing wing and wing downwind.

A bit later, we fell off and headed back inside the bay and eventually watched that same returning sailboat and another one headed in opposite directions.

We continued sailing down the shore fo the Marin Headlands toward Richardson Bay and soon enountered this Coast Guard patrol boat at anchor just outside the mouth of Richardson Bay.

With surprisingly continuous moderate breezes, we continued sailing up the Sausalito channel, passing this outbound ketch.

Soon after passing them, we came about and headed back out ourselves, and sailed past the Taj Mahal houseboat in one of the Sausalito marinas.

As we were exiting Richardson Bay in a light breeze that had shifted into the northeast, this sailboat motorsailed past us.

We eventually encountered a southwest breeze again and soon approached that same Coast Guard boat, still at anchor.

We continued sailing down the shore of the Marin Headlands, passing Yellow Bluff and then falling off to head for home port, eventually passing this smaller sailboat heading west with a large ketch in the distance approaching the gate.

The city was enjoying early evening sunshine as we approached home port....

..sailing past the end of pier 39 where the flags were now fluttering in a breeze of about 5 knots.
We doused sail after passing the marina and motored into port after making ANTICIPATION ready for landing, happy that we had spent several pleasure-filled hours on our beautiful bay. After docking, we settlied into the salon and enjoyed some wine and cheese and crackers togother, followed by some homemade pwso pizza.
