THURSDAY, 4 OCTOBER 07-- SUNSET BIRTHDAY SAIL FOR MELISSA
Michael and his sister, Melissa, and her friends, Sarah and Diane, joined us around 6 pm for a sunset sail as part of Melissa's birthday celebration.

The sun was already low in the sky as we left port.

As we headed out into the central bay, a flock of pelicans was heading our way, flying overhead, but then veered off to fly close to the water in front of us.

We had hoped to see the sun set into the ocean through the gate, but we soon saw that the sun was dropping into a cloud bank on the western horizons.

The tops of the financial district buildings were still illuminated by the sunshine.

The sun did manage to peek through a small gap in the clouds as it was setting.

A bit of sunset color developed over the bay and the city as we continued westward in moderate winds.

The sunset was a bit subdued, but still colorful as it progressed.
It was dark as we headed home, city lights coming up-- magic time on the bay, and we did encounter one other sailboat out there as it was motorsailing eastward.
